Night of the Nerds!

Night of the NerdsNight of the Nerds

Join ICON Science Fiction and our friend Mr. Oblivion at 89 North Music Venue. Music, cosplay, and portable electronic gaming all in one event! Plus an Amiibo Tournament hosted by SPLI!

And isn’t that a wonderful poster?

Please join us there!

Quick poll in the comments here: please let us know if you’d like us to sell LI-CON t-shirts at the Night of the Nerds. The new design is gorgeous.

Help us pick something to riff!

One of the most popular things at LI-CON 1 was our own Katrina and Izaac riffing on SyFy’s Sharknado.

This time around, the team would like your help selecting short subjects to work on. Anything suggested must have a license that lets us modify and use the video, so either Public Domain or compatible Creative Commons licenses. Note that we’re a charitable corporation [501(c)(3)], so commercial licensing is not required.

Katrina suggests looking in the Prelinger Archive (https://archive.org/details/prelinger) as a starting point, but there are lots of other sources of free-license video out there.

Reminder: because they want to offer variety this year, please suggest only short videos, say under 30 minutes. Shorter videos are more likely to be selected.

Send your suggestions to riffs@li-con.org.

Thanks!

LI-CON to offer ASL translation for selected programming

LI-CON Hotel Liaison Amanda has arranged to have some of our programming translated into ASL, live, for our members who are unable to hear.

If you would like ASL translation of any specific programming, contact Amanda as hotel@li-con.org. (Note: I’ll post a reminder of this after our schedule is available!)

The Clarion has only a limited number of deaf-enabled (TTY, etc.) rooms, so if you plan to stay at the hotel during LI-CON, please contact them with  your reservation as soon as possible. If anyone needs assistance with reservations, contact the email address above for help.
